Just stumbled upon this gem looking for information about my father, SGM Arthur R. Simon, who served in the 5th and 1st (Viet Nam) and with the 7th, 3rd
Battlion in Panama, HHD. He has since passed away and I'm trying to gather as much as I can about him. It was a "need to know" with him haha! Give a holler if any of you former SF troops know of him. SF, keep up the outstanding work! Thanks from a grateful American Citizen.

started any training of any sort yet. I am 17 years old, and am very active in
many sports and have no problem maxing out the Physical Fitness Test, but I was
wondering if I could get someone to send me an email about how to mentally train
for Special Op Training, and what little things I can get into the habit of
doing before I get there so I am not totally blown out of the water. Thank you
so much for your help.

Hi Fellow Green Berets, I need your help and support. I was in the 7th
Special Forces group who was given his Green Beret by President Kennedy in 1961.
I have been very active all of my life, then out of nowhere I developed
pulmonary fibrosis in my lungs and have less than a 25% lung capacity left. My
VA here in Dayton, Ohio put me through a year and a half of testing and
concluded that I was a good canidate for a lung transplant. My pulmonary
physician, Dr. Jeffrey Schnader submitted the transplant request to five VA
transplant hospitals and they all turned me down because they think that over
age 60 is too old, even though other non-government hospitals transplant single
lungs over 65 years old. I want every Special Force Veteran to know that the VA
Hospitals in this country are dropping the ball for our medical care for those
of us over 60 years old. The VA Hospital has sent me home to die even though Dr.
Schnader there said that I am a good canidate for a lung transplant and that I
could even go to work again and golf with a tranplant. If I survive this, I want
to work for all the Veterans who are dying needlessly because the VA is
practicing age discrimination. Please go to my website that a friend set up for
me. I would love your comments and letters. Even though I am on oxygen
constantly, I still gasp for air. I am getting weaker but I am trying to hold on
and fight, for me and all of you who have served your country well and may need
a transplant of some kind in the future. Best wishes to all, Jerry Wood

Thanks to those who let me know that a good friend i was trying to locate, Darrell Redman, had recently passed away.
- Darrell Dean Redman, born September 14, 1945, passed away after a brief illness on November 17, 2002, in Bangkok, Thailand. His obituary stated that in 1966 Darrell enlisted in the Armed Forces, becoming a member of the 5th Special Forces Green Berets and ulitmately a member of SOG, intelligence branch of the Green Berets. He served his country from 1966 until 1972, being discharged as a Captain after service in Vietname, Okinawa, and Korea. He received the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster for bravery, the Silver Star for saving 4 of his fellow soldiers while under fire, and 3 purple hearts for wounds received during his tours in Vietnam. -
If anyone knows Darrell and would like to share your memories or know of anything else published about him, please feel free to email me. I know he was in a book or two - i only wish i could track them down. A moment of silence for a great & complicated man that lived life to the fullest! Much love to all those who served. God Bless!!

This is a site worthy of the "best of the best". My father Frank P. Batteford,Jr. served in SF for about 15 years w/ the 1st, 5th, and 10th SFGs. He pulled 3 tours of duty in Vietnam which included being in Project Delta and in Khe Sahn during the siege. My father passed away 3/30/2002. If anyone out there can tell me a few things about him during his years w/ SF I would really appreciate it. A special thank you to Ken Lazalaco who served w/ my Dad in SF in Vietnam who gave a moving speech at my Dad's memorial ceremony. For all of you who have served or are serving now, my deepest respect and thank you goes out to you.

Looking for a Corporal Duperroy, Corporal Jonathon Duperroy a towed jumper with the mind of a cretan but the courage of a drunk, who executed a feet ass head PLF in all our hearts... Hello, I am Sergeant Miller 3rd Brigade, 3rd ANGLICO. We train fairly hard, but I must say we are the dirtiest, stinkiest, bags of Chesty's buttcheese you have ever seen. 3rd Brigade is out in the field so dog-gone long that our gunny has to blast us down with a fire house to get all the fungus off. The grabbastic bags of extrenuous anal leavings over at 1st MLE occasionally refer to us as the freeballin' fairies because the unorthidox manor in which we modify our battle dress uniforms in the summer heat in JRTC Fort, Polk Lousiania. The motto among this derilict motley crew of pungent airborne wretches is "chonies iz for fonies." Nevertheless, I must reinterate that the Marines of 3rd Anglico and especially 3rd Brigade, are a bunch of smelly, stinky freaks that should not be tampered with other than in the time of war. And in such a time, they should be unleashed like wild, rabbid, gibbons upon the world in order to reap communist soles with unrelentingly barbarousness and without the slightest hint of remorse. Until that day, the president will store us behind a glass case marked: break only during a smelly, sweaty, stinky emergency.

I was told I can wear the ROK-SF (I have the orders) Tab along with my ROK jump wings but anytime I due, people give me a line of s#!t and tell me I can't. Can someone try to help me understand this? White Panther, thank you for the "honest" critique of my fellow Americans. I am absolutely certain the world community will be amazed by the ethnic tolerance and understanding which is now sweeping across the Balkans. Serbia, a nation that is most recently noted for such national heroes (or murderers) as Slobodan Milosevic, Radovan Karadzic, and Mladic Ratko, is hardly a model for the new world order. The Serbian Army demonstrated an uncanny ability for raping women and killing old folks. (Now that is a military organization you can be proud of!) Let us not forget the Serbian view of social engineering--ethnic cleansing. Most Americans will tell you America is not perfect. But, we sure look pretty damn good when compared to most of the nations that inhabit this world.
Peace.

Green Beret, hmm what should I say. Rambo was a good movie but the Americans are full of judemental, undeserved pride. You bomb countries because of thier politics, your country has boiled up the most uneducated, drunken, racists that any country in the free world could produce. I like the "Honest" americans--and there are not many. I try to be open minded about every country
but Americans forbid other "friendly" contacts from other nations, you men and women of the USA, are born alone and will die alone--you refuse anyone's assistance. We must all learn from one another, but you people do not accept this teaching method, there is no kindness, just hostility. That is all.
White Panther.

Was in the B/3/5 SFG from 74 to 77. Just heard that the 3 KIA's in Afghanistan were from 3/5 SF. Just curious as to what team they were on . I was on 581 and 583 during my time in the 5th. Went to Tolz in 77 stayed until 82, was on ODA 10 and ODA 3, made E-8 and was Tm Sgt of ODA 9 . Actually they had changed the numbers by then and was ODA 133 that I was the Tm Sgt of.

My father was in the Special Forces. He was in Vietnam. I have been told that there was a picture on the comver of a military paper that had a picture of my Mom and Dad hugging when he returned home. This picture would have been taken in Fort Bragg NC. Does anyone know what the name of this paper might be? Also if anyone has any information they would like to share about the Son Tay Raid I would love to here it.

I was one of the honored support sopldiers to be assigned to a Special Forces battalion. I served from 1995 upto my retirement in 1997 with the finest soldiers known to modern man. As a support soldier, I was nervous at first of being in the "inner-circle" of SF, especially standing next to "tabbers" in daily formations. I soon found that we, the support troops, within a SF battalion were treated with the utmost respect and admiration for our support to the ODA's and Command Staff. As the Senior Counterintelligence Special Agent within the battalion, I was surprised at the amount of respect the Commander, LTC Joseph Andrade, and even the ODA Commanders had in my input to various realwotrld missions. I was totally taken back at the honors the battalion bestowed upon me and retirement party they threw for me. I will NEVER for get those men and the most wonderful part of my career supporting and living within the "Silent Professionals" world. I would love to hear from all that I served with in the 3rd Bn and especially LTC Andrade.

Hello
I am the proud son of Sfc. James K. Stevenson
my father was in the special forces and did two tours in Nam "62-65" me dad was in the deep shit and had a CO that was out for him, it didnt help that he voiced his oppion about things but he spooke several of he native langues and he had a six sence about combat and a real hard dude in the jungle with intelegence and servival skillz, he made it back home to my mom and sister.
Then after doing a bid in Germany he came back to the states "71" and retied at"78"
Ft Benning Ga. and and died in Columbus Ga in "94"
My dad gave me very thing the army had
in terms of gear, spent rounds on belts, parashutes, fatiges, boots,C rations, mess kits, and the ruber training wepons that looked like thet real thing, so as a kid growinnng up on the army base from time to time these were the Toys I had to play with until I lost them, or they got stolen or broke
My dad even got me a collection of a lot of the Nam era, Green Beret/ MAC SOG /division pacthes from every state and and detachment or branch, ground and air units and Tank and....
Ive lost them growing up and moving and having them taken, lost them so I want to colect them again..
These are the unit and division patches usualy with a skull and a Green Beret and a snake on it with red eyes of fangs ready to strike and or with lighting flashing behind or throught the
skull OR a Eagel or a Dragon
((((The real Mac SOG and Covert strike group patches!!)))HOW CAN I GET THESE PATCHES!????
WHO HAS THESE
please E. mail me.

I must say that I am truly moved by the experience of viewing your web site. I was 12 when my father,Willie D. Stephens was K.I.A. in Viet-Nam March 6,1970. He was a member of the 7th and 5th S.F.G. in Ft. Bragg, N.C. He was there in 63,65,67,69. In reality,I only knew my father as just that,...a father. But,being his oldest son,I strive to find as much information as I possibly can about him,as would any son. I know that Special Forces and other group's are very secretive,so I don't expect much, although I will try to learn as much as I possibly am allowed to learn. With the luck I have had finding out anything at all,...I would consider it a Blessing,or even a miracle if anyone would find it within themselves to at least talk with me.

I have been looking for information online, and this was the first site I could find that had any detail. I wish more people in the military took time to make site's as useful as your's. It makes the world of difference to girlfriends and wives like me when we have questions or concerns. If there is anyone who would like to chat with me about what I will soon be going through as his girlfriend - possibly wife later in life, please feel free to e-mail me anytime. Again, thank you for all the useful information I found on you're site.

My name is Dwayne Hilton And I am writing to any one that
can help me. My Story is Brief my dad Carl Hilton who is
(decease now) was a former Green Beret around 1967 and did
two tours of duty Korea and Viet Nam . When I was a small
fella growing up I used to love to see him in that uniform
with the Beret on. But what I am trying to replace is this
Bronze Statue of a Green Beret Soldier and the Beret it self
my dad was the type of person that no matter where he went
in the USA He knew somebody and somebody knew him I remember
as us three kids we used to just shake our heads and say
man he knows them to. He was always the type to help others
first. I have Articles that say he was a hero by leading
his squad through the swamps and jungle's and me knowing
him I can believe that. So I'm pretty confident that he
has some friends out there that can help me. I have a
special corner in the house that's kind of a shrine.
I miss my father very much I didn't get a chance to say
goodbye we were in different states when he passed at
the young age of 51years old. please help if possible

but famous Berlin tunnel was most likely compromised by higher than normal underground temperature which resukted in melting snow outside. My assistance, if interested. is free. I consider this as my duty of a USA citizen.

Started checking out all the SFer sites a few months ago, had no idea this was all here! Just found Special Forces search eng. WOW,Fantastic, and it is non profit.(?) Keep up the good work. Last servered on Team A-104 camp ARO & HaThanh, Jan '65 to Dec '65. That was in I Corp, Demo-man Spc 5. Got a phone call from a guy named Sherman one day, he asked me to send my team picture for some book he sells, E-mailed instead with complete list of team members and their skills. He does not list the correct members or their right job. Not sure how good his info is on other teams? But that is how I found out about all of the sites. Sherman, thanks for the call even if you don't use the info. Found out my team XO, Lt Estep, latter was Lt Col Estep of the 1st Special Forces, A-Company Commander 1st Battalion (1984).On the return of the 1st to Okinawa. BOY! AM I ENTHUSIASTIC!! You probably don't know my Dutch name or even the nickname, "K-2", but I held some ambush team member's hand via whispers into my AC-47's FoxMike radio one night in 1969 near the Angel's Wing & Nui Ba Den! He couldn't talk because the VC campfire was so close & we couldn't shoot because we never could find HIM under the jungle canopy! We dropped plenty of ground flares trying to get an "offset" from them to him so we could hose Charlie and not have a short round! He couldn't spot them &, Dammit, we never COULD fix his exact location, but we hung around for 3-4 hours til we were running out of gas & had to RTB. Charlie hunkered down while he heard us! That was my last month in Spookies after 5 months in the Delta outta Binh Thuy & Can Tho!
Well, guess what guys? I found my Montagnard bracelets (my last 6 months were at Pleiku with EC-47's, elint to Army arty, & off-duty civic actions) & I'm looking for my SpecOps coins, now, to head for the clubs at MacDill -- after 15 years trying to finish Grad School at FSU & find a REAL job, I've about got one secured as a Guidance Counselor at MacDill's Base Education Office! And I'm so happy about it, I could almost spit! So give me a couple months, & any snake-eaters out there who want to come in from the boonies to get a GI Bill education & some "civilization" (HA!) -- I promise you my best shot at a #1 Deal, GI! (No Ba-Muoi-Ba needed in trade.)
For you younger snake-eaters, I was over Grenada in AC-130 Spectres & "somewhere" over Central America at one time, too! (Yes, I WAS a lifer -- even raised as an Army-AF "brat"!) So YOU can learn to pass for "civilized," too -- come visit ol' "K-2" at MacDill's Education Office & we'll see what we can do! Has anyone got a recording of "Ghostriders in the Sky"? ANY TIME, ANY PLACE! CHAO! K-2's going off the Net!

I'd like to correct statement. My dad JOHN C. SANUT informed me he was NOT a green beret, SO I'D LIKE TO APOLOGIZE FIRST, WE WROTE ME THE FOLLOWING TO HELP ME UNDERSTAND HOW HE CAME TO SF. He gave me the following info:my dad wrote:>> Do you recall the party at The Red Mouse (Tacoma WA prior to departure to Nam?) A special thanks to Detachment A-69 (Tacoma, Washington....June 1970) Just reviewing this website sent by my daughter. Many of those that was at CCC..... I've never seen or heard of again....since leaving Kontum. Damn it's been 31 years!!!!! Memory fails me, specially since transferring into CCC from Pleiku (C-team). Many of the names are now forgotten (specially since we used code names)....you know what I mean. Hey guy I got your e-mail address and will definitely be in touch. For the "SF" that lived, served and died....I owe an apology. My daughter "knew" I served with the SF and assumed I was a "Green Beret". Let me explain. I left the 82nd Airborne in 1969, and was assigned as a candy-striper to the 3rd SF (Sig CO) under Chief Leo Butcher. After the 3rd was de-activated, I was re-assigned to the 7th SF under Chief Meadows. In June 1970 was re-assigned to the 5th at Nha Trang Chief John C Martin (now deceased....knew him since October 1965) ...then sent to Pleiku C-Team, under Chief Donald Taylor. Under Chief Taylor I was responsible for all communications repairs, B-23, B-24, including the A Camps. 1SG Alford was C-Team 1SG. I was not in-country long enough to return when the 5th's colors was returned and was further assigned to SOA CCC at Kontum....there I remained until I was rotated back to Ft Riley....Gen Flanagan was Post Commander and CSM Carlos Leal (I heard but cannot verify that he (CSM Leal)died in Thailand during a HALO). CSM Leal had MSG Roy Benavidez check with the Replacement Detachment...daily. All those that came into Ft Riley (from the SF) were taken directly to CSM Leal....who gave us a job......yep there was a teamhouse there too. In 1972 I was able to return to Ft Bragg (under some kind of 82nd Airborne call-up, that would not allow transfers back to Smoke Bomb Hill.) Unlike many wannabe's.... I do not claim to be a Green Beret.....however I did serve with and in support of the many that were in and around Plieku and Kontum. Toby I still think of Cpt Krupa quite often.....may he RIP. .....a copy of this e-mail will be added to the guestbook mentioned.SUBMITTED TO CORRECT ERROR for john c. sanut by his daughter marisa

My Dad was a "Green Beret" his name is JOHN C. SANUT, he retired in 1984 after 20 years or so. I wanted as a tribute to him find anyone that served with him. He was in Communications Chief at one time I believe. He was stationed at Ft.Campbell 1966 (where I was born), Ft Bragg 1970, Ft. Riley, Mainz Germany, finally at Ft Hood. My memories of my Dad are still with me along with all the things I learned from him. I will come back and add any info else I learn about him. He was 17 when he went in I found a picture of him with his Airborne #132 on his helmet. He comes from the Stockton, California area. please direct any questions to me his adoring daughter who is proud of her father. De Opresso Libre

me, and no one or no thing will ever take that from me. And god and jeuse tells me that I'm a good person with a kind heart and soul for all people and
things. I just want to go home where I belong. And not to die this way it's sad.

I am looking to talk with anyone who served with Major George Quamo in Viet
Nam. I know he was reported missing in 1968 and his body was recovered in
1974. I know he was killed in a plane crash
and that he participated in the Special Forces rescue at Lang Vei in
1968.
In the various web tributes to Special Forces personnel who
> served at Lang Vei, it mentions Quamo rounding up a group of Special
Forces commando volunteers from the MACV-SOG base at Khe Sanh and leading an
"heroic" reinforcing rescue that allowed the Lang Vei defenders to evacuate.
Is there any person, or a place where I could find out more about Major
Quamo, I would greatly appreciate it.

About a week before I retired in December I learned that my friend J.D. Callahan (Ret. SGM) had died suddenly at his home in Florida. It struck me because I had seen Joe only one week before in my office as he was leaving on another tdy. Joe, always a prankster had stopped by to harass me about being an old pecker-checker and I had come back with the standard line of him being my best live training aid for all venereal diseases known to man....... As I reflect on our times together I think back to 1966 when J.D. and Bata Boots Bennet flew into Texas with a C-119 full of T-10 parachutes to jump the SF Medic classes; and then go on to a later time when we both were in Northern Virginia still doing "God's work" after retiring from SF. Later as we were both in Africa and Central America in the 80s and 90s supporting the locals, Joe's sense of humor and field knowledge saw us through some tough times. Joe was always the consummate professional and most likely one of the best SF Commo men that I have had the pleasure of knowing.......... His wife recently told my wife and I that "Joe said he had done everything in life that he wanted to do." I am sure that he did and is now making commo under tough conditions with old equipment and hearing us all five-by.

I am trying to locate William C. Bennett, a former Special Forces officer who served at the U.S. Southern Command (J3/Special Operations) from 1989-1991. At that time he was a lieutenant colonel, US Army. I am trying to locate him to secure his permission to reprint on my homepage an article he wrote on Operation Just Cause (the invasion of Panama, December 20, 1999) which he copyrighted and published in Military Review in 1991. I was a civilian press officer at the Southern Command at Quarry Heights, Panama, 1985-1997 and the same for SouthCom's Army component in Panama 1975-1985.
After leaving a similar note on another SF Guestbook, I was told Bennett is a member of the SFA Chapter LX in Florida. I tried to contact him at the email address given on the Chapter’s directory of members. No response to date. I would appreciate anyone knowing him to pass on my note.

I'm pleased to announce the establishment of The Master Sergeant David K. Thuma Memorial Scholarship with Regents College. The scholarship honors a US Army Special Forces soldier who set the standard for all who knew him, and for those who follow. As a former Command Sergeant Major of the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), I was fortunate enough to have Dave as one of my team sergeants and was deeply saddened by his untimely death while training in Kenya, Africa in 1998. He was an extraordinary man among extraordinary men who was recently honored with the naming of our Special Forces NCO Academy after him. As always, thank you for your service to the nation, and if you're ever in El Paso, please look us up.

I am very impressed with the website. Like everything else associated with Special Forces there is none better.
I was in the following SF units
Training Group from Sept. 1967-Sept 1968
7th SFG Sept 1968-April 1969
46th SF Co. April 1969-April 1970
5th SFG (CCC) April 1970-April 1971 (About half way through the 5th went back to the states and we became a MACV unit with black baseball hats
8th SFG April 1971 until it became Co. D 7th SF-left Panama in August 1973 for OCS at ft. Benning
Spent the next 13 years in the Field Artillery.
Been doing Training Management and development in the Aerospace and Automobile industry since.
Not much military around Troy. It is amazing that when you get away from a military base how little
people know and comprehend what members of the Armed Services have done for this country.
I will say that many of the little town around here do have Memorial Day Parades. Town halls all have
monuments to their war dead. Michigan really bleed during the Civil War. Appreciation for the military in this
area has increased over the last 10 years. I think it is because of the veterian groups are making their presence
known.
Anyway great website. I will recommend it.

Dear Sirs,
My name is Jeffrey Cleland and I am trying to get in touch with Sgt. (R) Mark Francis Robertson my wife's father.
He was stationed in Myrtle Beach, SC during the late 60's and then transferred to Okinawa. When my wife last contacted him he was living in the Chicago area.
His daughter, Beth, and granddaughter, Hannah, need to contact him and would very much like to have him in their lives. We have recently learned the true circumstances that led him to leave. We also have been subjected to some of the same treatment that
he received from his ex-wife's family and we all understand why he left.
Beth has gone through a series of painful and very traumatic steps to break the cycle of hatred and bigotry that Sgt. Robertson was victimized by. She now has no family outside our home.
When Sgt. Robertson last visited Beth he gave his beret to her. Although that was taken from her she has never lost the feelings of love toward her father or the desire to be reunited with him.

To all members of SFA Chapter LX - your Area of Operations was a pleasure to visit from 15 to 20 May 2000. I hope that when any Special Forces Assoc. member comes to the 54th SFA AO we can make life as fun, productive and hospitable as you have made you
s for me. Phil King is indeed the finest, most reliable and entertaining Aide de Camp any Flag Rank Officer could ask for, much less a civilian SF enthusiast could hope to find. Being able to sit with, absorb wisdom from, and be of some service to CMOH
Franklin “Doug” Miller was a high point in my association with the Green Berets. My friend and mentor, General William Yarborough, was delighted with the reception he found waiting for him from the SFA Chap 60 when he came to Tampa on the 17th of May to receive the Bull Simons Memorial Award and Phil provided a most gracious welcome to your
SFOB. Please do not hesitate to call me personally whenever you come to the 54th SFA AO which I hope will be the Y2K convention in Boston (July 1-4

I have a photo of Dick Meadows and me taken in aug 1954. We were in the military mountaineering school, Camp Carson Co. The photo was taken in the Wind River Wilderness area at the foot of Gannet peak in
Wyoming. We were climbing buddies on the glaciers. Pretty good picture of Dick. Would Mrs. Meadows like a copy of the photo? ( Or the chapter?) If so send me a mailing address. Sincerely CC Drumheller

Hey Guys, this site is really outstanding. Good graphics, good sound, and good format. Very simple, yet very interesting, and easy to read and follow. BTW, if C/60 is the closest Chapter to Bradenton, you may have a new member after the first of the year,
as I will more then likely be returning "home" around that time. I will be in the AO after SOAR

Chapter LX has always been a leading innovator where chapters within SFA are concerned. You are one of the first to come out with a web site that
is both interesting, informative, and pleasing to the eye. I know when you get the new one put together, Earl McMillan will have done you proud.

How many members does your SFA Chapter have? I've thinking of joining; What's the cost? Back in the "year 1" I was a member of the Decade club.
I'm looking for members of CCC, CCN, & CCS from '68 - '69. I've been maintaining a low profile for 30 years and now I want to connect with individuals who shared the SF/'yard experience before, during, & after "the big
Tet". Tom
PS Maybe you jumped with me in the R.D., 'nam, Panama,...etc. http://greene.xtn.net/~carrt

Phil King and I served with the 3rd SFG about a 100 years ago (Well, it seems like that long ago anyway). Your website has brought back more than just a few memories. The pride is still there.
